My book:

I really enjoyed The Awakening. I thought the book had a lot of suspense and action. I never wanted to put the book down! I really liked the ending, and I would like to read the whole series. The author is really good. She put lots of detail in the book, so it made it better. I would recommend this book to anyone. If you liked Twilight then you would like The Awakening.

Other books:

Jessie’s book: I don’t think I would like Keeping the Moon because it seemed like it really dragged on. It doesn’t seem like it has a very good story line, and there’s no action.

Halee’s book: Dear Nobody seems like an interesting book, but I don’t think I’d like it because it seems like it dragged on a little too long. This book doesn’t look very good because it doesn’t have a lot going on through the story.

Chapter 16

Summary: In this chapter Elena goes to school and Stefan isn’t there. Everybody in school is saying that he ran away. Elena knows that Stefan would never run away so she goes to the cemetery to find Damon.

Main characters: The main character in this chapter is Elena.

Character development: Elena is a different person from the beginning of the book. She isn’t selfish anymore, and she treats her friends better. Elena knows that Stefan would never run away so she puts herself in danger to find him.

Setting: This chapter takes place at Robert E. Lee High School, and at the Fell’s Church graveyard.

Quote:

“Elena, it’s worse than that. He’s disappeared.”

Bonnie tells Elena this when she asks about Stefan. Everybody at school thinks that Stefan ran away because he killed the teacher, when really Damon did something to him.

Vocabulary:
Automation: The state of being automated.
Conflagration: A destructive fire, usually an extensive one.

Chapter 15

Summary: In this chapter Stefan decides to go to the spot in the woods where he first saw the crow. Damon is there. Damon tells Stefan that he wants Elena, and then they get into a fight. Stefan is week because he drinks animal blood instead of human blood so Damon beats him. Stefan passes out.

Main characters: The main characters in this chapter are Damon, and Stefan.

Character development: Stefan is very protective of Elena. When Damon says that he wants Elena, Stefan gets really mad and puts all of his strength into killing Damon.

Setting: This chapter takes place before school in the woods in Fell’s Church, Virginia.

Quote:

“Elena is not yours, and she never will be.”

Stefan tells Damon this when Damon tells him that he wants Elena. Stefan is very protective, and he gets mad at Damon.

Vocabulary:
Pique: To affect with sharp irritation and resentment.
Coalesced: To blend or come together.

Chapter 14

Summary: In this chapter we find out that Katherine took her ring off in the sun and she died. Vampires can’t go in sun unless they have a special ring on. Katherine killed herself because she wanted Stefan and his brother Damon to stop fighting. When they found her dead, they started to fight. Damon killed Stefan, and that made Stefan turn into a vampire. Stefan killed Damon and Damon became a vampire. In the present Elena wants to become a vampire, but Stefan says no. At the end of the chapter Stefan bites her.

Main characters: The main characters in this chapter are Elena, and Stefan.

Character development: In this chapter Elena wants to become a vampire because she wants to be with Stefan forever. Now that she understands him, she loves him and wants to be with him forever.

Setting: This chapter takes place at the boarding house in Fell’s Church. It’s the night of the Halloween dance.

Quote:

“The simplest explanation is that I’m the killer.”

Stefan says this to Elena when he’s explaining what happened to Katherine. He blames himself for Katherine killing herself. He feels horrible, and he won’t forgive himself.

Chapter 13

Summary: In this chapter Elena sneaks out of the dance to go see Stefan. When she gets to the boarding house Stefan isn’t there. The door to the roof is open so she goes onto the roof. When she gets on the roof she sees Stefan drinking a dove’s blood. She gets scared and backs up. The old metal on the rood gives and she falls. While she’s in the air Stefan grabs her and the land safely on the ground. Elena isn’t scared so she goes into the boarding house with Stefan, so he can tell her everything. We find out that in the past Katherine changed Stefan and Damon. She chose them both. Stefan says that they killed her.

Main characters: In this chapter the main characters are Elena, and Stefan.

Character development: In this chapter Elena finds out the secret. Stefan is a vampire. Even though she should be scared, she isn’t. She trusts him completely. They get closer in this chapter.

Setting: This chapter takes place at the boarding house in Fell’s Church. It’s the night of the dance.

Quote:

“There had been too much fear, too many blows tonight. She could react no longer. She could only stare up at him with a kind of wonder.”

Elena thinks this when Stefan catches her when she falls. It would be impossible for a human to get to her that fast and to save her. She is very confused.

Chapter 12

Summary: In this chapter it’s the Halloween dance. Stefan picks Elena up and they go to the dance. A little while after they get there Mr. Tanner is murdered. Everybody thinks that Stefan killed him. Elena asks Matt to help Stefan get out, so he does. Stefan get’s out without anybody seeing him.

Main characters: The main characters in this chapter are Elena, Stefan, and Matt.

Character development: Elena still isn’t sure about Stefan. She doesn’t know what she’s going to do. By the end of the night she’s going to make her decision.

Setting: This chapter takes place after school at the dance at Robert E. Lee High School. It’s October 31.

Quote:

“Tonight’s the night when it all happens.”
Elena says this before Stefan picks her up. She decides that after tonight she’s going to make her decision about Stefan.

Chapter 11

Summary: In this chapter Elena and Meredith go to Bonnie’s house to plan for the Halloween dance. Elena tells Bonnie and Meredith than she’s not sure about her and Stefan. Bonnie suggests for Elena to take a test called Dumb Supper. The test is to see who she’s going to marry when she gets older. Elena agrees, but instead of seeing her future husband the stranger from the gym walks in the house. Bonnie’s dog was murdered in the backyard and Elena’s diary is gone. We find out that in the past Katherine changed Stefan into a vampire.

Main characters: The main characters in this chapter are Elena, Meredith, Bonnie, and the stranger.

Character development: Elena is starting to doubt Stefan. She feels like there’s something big he isn’t telling her. She doesn’t think that he trust her. She wishes that Stefan would tell her everything.

Setting: This chapter takes place at Bonnie’s house in October.

Quote:

“There are times when everything is wonderful, and then there are other times when ...”

Elena tells her friends this when they ask about Stefan. She doesn’t know what to do. Stefan acts different all the time.

Chapter 10

Summary: In this chapter Elena, Bonnie, and Meredith are on the decorating committee for the Halloween dance. While they’re in the gym planning after school, the lights go out. Bonnie and Meredith go look for the janitor, and Elena stays in the gym. While Bonnie and Meredith are gone somebody else comes in the gym. Elena doesn’t know how he got there because all the doors are locked. The stranger talks to Elena for a while, but then Elena runs out of the gym to find Bonnie and Meredith.

Main characters: The main characters in this chapter are Elena, Bonnie, and Meredith.

Character development: Elena isn’t as selfish anymore. She’s starting to act more mature.

Setting: This chapter takes place after school at Robert E. Lee High School. It’s in the middle of October.

Quote:

“I want him to love me as much as I love him.”

Elena says this to her friends. She thinks that Stefan doesn’t love her as much as she loves him. Stefan loves her just as much, but he doesn’t show it like she does.

Chapter 9

Summary: In this chapter Stefan told us about his past. He and his brother Damon loved the same girl. Her name was Katherine. She had to decide between them. In the present, Bonnie and Meredith go to Elena’s house. After that they all go to Vickie’s house. When Vickie sees Elena, she screams and says that Elena is evil. The girls leave, to go visit Stefan.

Main characters: The main characters in this chapter are Elena, Stefan, Bonnie, and Meredith.

Character development: In this chapter Elena loves Stefan, and Stefan loves Elena. Elena is worried about Vickie, but when she gets to Vivkie's house, Vickie is scared of her. Elena doesn’t know what’s going on.

Setting: This chapter takes place at Elena’s house, and at Vickie’s house. It’s the morning after the dance.

Quote:

“I will die before touching her.”

Stefan says this the next morning. He vows not to hurt her. He cares a lot about Elena, and he would do anything to save her.

Chapter 8

Summary: In this chapter Elena is at the boarding house. She and Stefan talk all night. She asks him why he hates her so much, and he says that he doesn’t hate her, he just doesn’t want to hurt her. Matt, Bonnie, and Meredith are out looking for Elena. They find Vicki. She was attacked. At the end of the chapter Elena goes home, and there are police at her house.

Main characters: The main characters in this chapter are Elena, Stefan, Bonnie, Matt, and Meredith.

Character development: In this chapter Elena and Stefan get closer. They spend most of the night talking, and they even kiss. They’re both happy.

Setting: This chapter takes place at the boarding house and at Elena’s house. It’s the night of the dance.

Quote:

“Why do you hate me so much?”

Elena asks Stefan this because she thinks that he’s trying to stay away from her because he doesn’t like her. He answers that he does like her and he doesn’t want her to get hurt.
