Summary: In this chapter Jeannette and her family are always moving from town to town. At every small town they stop, they aren't there very long. They live in Nevada, California, and Arizona. Jeannette's dad Rex, is working on building "the prospecter". It will sort through the sand and find gold. Once they find gold, Rex is going to build a glass castle.
Main characters: The main characters are Jeannette, Rex, Rose, Brian (Jeannette's brother), and Lori (Jeanette's sister).
Character development: Jeannette knows that her family will move again, so she never gets close to anyone or anything in the towns. She loves and looks up to her parents.
Setting: In this chapter they live in Nevada, California, and Arizona. It takes place in the past.
Quote: The quote I think is the most important is when Rex says, "Wherever we end up." because it shows that they're not going to a specific place. They're just going to drive until they find a small town that looks like it could work for them.
Vocabulary: Gestapo : the German state secret police during the Nazi regime.
Gypsum: a mineral occurring in crystals.
