Summary: In this chapter Jeannette is 3 years old, making hot dogs. She bends over to give her dog a hot dog when her dress catches on fire. She was severly burned, and rushed to the hospital. While the doctors where treating her injuries, they found bruises and cuts all over her body. The doctors think that her parents where abusing her, but Jeannette says they wheren't. She had to get a skin graft, and all of the right side of her body was covered in bandages. While she was in the hospital, she learned new things. She enjoyed being there. After 6 weeks of being in the hospital, her dad checks her out, "Rex Walls style". After that Jeannette becomes fasinated with fire. She steels her dads matches to burn her toys. Then one night Rex comes home and takes his family. They leave with as less as possible.

Setting: The begining of the chapter takes place in a trailer park in southern Arizona. The rest of the chapter is in the hospital. Jeannette is 3 years old, so it takes place in the past.

Favourite quote: My favourite quote is, "I would have been happy staying in that hospital forever." because it shows that in the hospital she has a better life than at home. The nurses always ask her if she needs anything, she doesnt have a TV at home but she has one at the hospital, and people make meals for her.
