Summary: In this chapter Elena is very upset that Stefan cut her off and walked away.  After school she goes to the graveyard to visit her parents, who have been dead for 3 years. Bonnie and Meredith find Elena there. They both swear to help Elena get Stephan. While leaving the graveyard the girls sense that something is following them. They run out of the graveyard as fast as the can.

Main characters: In this chapter the main characters are Elena, Bonnie, and Meredith.

Character development:  Elena is mad and sad that Stefan doesn’t notice her like the other boys do. She swears not to stop until Stefan is hers.

Setting: This chapter takes place at the cemetery in Fell’s Church, Virginia. It’s the evening of chapter three.

Quote:

“She was crying with anger and humiliation and frustration.”

Elena is angry because Stefan won’t pay any attention to her. She humiliated because he did that to her in the middle of a classroom, and she’s frustrated because she can’t figure out why he won’t pay attention to her.
