Summary: In this chapter Elena is at school. She meets everyone in the parking lot. One of Elena's closest friends Bonnie, says that she's psychic. Her other close friend named Caroline isn't talking to Elena this year because she's mad at her. There's a new guy at school and Elena really likes him. She finds out that his name is Stefan Salvatore. No guy has ever turned Elena down, but Stefan is different. He pays no attention to her.

Main Characters: In this chapter the main characters are Elena and Stefan.

Character development: Elena is very surprised, and hurt that Stefan didn`t notice her. She`s not used to people that don`t stare at her.

Setting: This chapter takes place in Fell`s Church, Virginia. It`s early September.

Elena's friend Bonnie tells Elena this after she tells her that she's psychic. It shows that Bonnie actually might be psychic because Elena meets Stefan. They don't know he's a vampire, but Bonnie tells her that the stranger is dark.
